Durham Students:
Want to create a personal web page, build an app, or pursue your own self-directed project with the guidance of a CS Sidekick who knows how to code? Join our Pathways Program and learn computer science at your level, whatever that may be. No experience necessary!
We strive to create an inclusive, excited, and passionate community of students to allow DPS students to learn outside of their comfort zone with guidance from their undergraduate/graduate mentors. No matter a student’s computer science knowledge or ability, there is a place for them at CS Sidekicks!
Eligibility:
- Durham Students in 7th through 11th grade
- Students interested in computer science
Expectations:
- All students are expected to respect, value, and learn from the differences of others, including both Sidekicks and their fellow students
- All students are expected to reflect on and learn from their own differences
- All students are expected to have a positive attitude and willingness to actively participate in any session or activity that they attend
Aspiring Sidekicks:
Our goal is to provide every student with a mentor who can lead the way through their computer science journey. We’re always looking for passionate, enthusiastic undergraduate or graduate student volunteers who can aid us in our mission to bring accessible computer science curricula to local Durham students.
Eligibility:
- Student must have some level of computer science experience
- HTML, CSS, and/or Python3 experience preferred
Expectations:
- HTML, CSS, and/or Python3 experience preferable
- All Sidekicks are expected to not only teach, but to also support their students
- All Sidekicks are expected to attend all sessions in order to give their mentees consistency and continuity in their program
- All Sidekicks are expected to maintain a positive attitude and contribute to an energetic, passionate learning environment
